With all that we’re juggling, it’s all too easy to become consumed by our schedules and to-do lists—suddenly finding that every day is passing by in the blink of an eye.
We all know that there’s much more to life than getting stuff done, right? And no one wants to look back and wish they’d lived better, loved more, or worked less.
While whatever it is that you’re striving for is certainly worth all of the time and effort you’re putting in, it’s key to be intentional with how you spend your time on a daily basis and how you view life along the way!
We recently connected with our friend Vanessa from Texas Madre and just love her take on how she juggles her various roles—from managing her own business to staying present as a homemaker for her family and volunteering in the community. We asked Vanessa to share some of her top words of wisdom with us. Read on to get inspired!
To create happiness in her everyday life (and those around her!), Vanessa lives by these five personal intentions.
1. Live Life to the Fullest!
I was always taught to enjoy life and live every day intentionally without fear of failure. I am blessed to have a support system that believes in me and celebrates my successes and failures. I am empowered by them and the knowledge that my life is exactly what I make of it and the sky is the limit.
2. Be Confident and Be You!
Being confident comes from knowing yourself. I was taught that my self-worth was dependent on me and not what others thought of me. My siblings and I were given the opportunity to express our thoughts, and we were always encouraged in whatever endeavor we worked toward. Yes, there were lessons learned along the way. However, it was not about our surroundings and where we fit in, but instead how we valued ourselves and lived our lives.
3. Be a Good Example and a Present Mother
My children are the best thing that ever happened to me. They are one of the main reasons I work, take risks, volunteer, and live a healthy lifestyle. It is the hardest job I have ever had, but it is worth the effort. I make it a point to be involved and excited about aspects of their lives. I’m present in their moments and influence their behavior and attitude by setting the example of the person I hope them to be.
4. Plan Ahead!
I am a busy mother that is involved in the community. To achieve my goals and keep my family on schedule, I plan ahead. This is so important for our home life to keep balance and run smoothly. Not going to lie – we always have a certain amount of chaos! I make it a point to update our calendar when I receive all of our schedules. I reference my notes and prepare for activities that are set. I check school and organization calendars, and plan events and travel commitments around those dates. When we are in the thick of things, you will sometimes find the kids categorized by the color of the pen used on my schedule too. Ha!
5. Be Faithful and Kind
I am a believer. My beliefs set the precedence for a kinder and more understanding way of life. I’m a firm believer that what you put out into the world is what comes back to you. Like anything else in life, it’s a challenge to stay the course, but I always remember how blessed I am and make it a point to treat others the way I want to be treated.
