When you see highly successful people, they always seem to have plenty of time to everything they want, but how? Just juggling the kids and getting groceries might seem like a struggle for most of us!

However, there are certain things successful people intentionally do to be more productive. Adopting some of their best practices will help you get more done in less time! Now that’s something we can all get behind, right?

No matter what you’re trying to accomplish, don’t reinvent the wheel. Learn from others and be successfully productive too.

1. Skip Multi-Tasking

Every truly successful person will tell you one thing – you can only do one thing at a time. Multi-tasking is a myth. It doesn’t work. While it might feel like you’re doing more, you’re actually less productive.

Instead of multi-tasking, you’re just task switching, which reduces how quickly and accurately you can perform each task. Increase productivity by focusing solely on one task at a time and see just how much more you accomplish.

2. Schedule To-Dos

To-do lists are great, right? Maybe, but maybe not. Surprisingly, one of the things successful people do to be more productive is skipping to-do lists. Instead, they schedule everything. Their list is a calendar.

The team management tool I Done This found that 41% of to-do list items were never completed. A study of billionaires found that they don’t keep to-do lists. Why? You tend to do the easy items, but leave the rest because you’re not sure where to fit them in.

Scheduling them into allotted blocks of time means you know when to do them and have time already set aside for them.

3. Prioritize Sleep

If there aren’t enough hours in the day, why sleep? While it might seem like cutting out a few hours of sleep makes you productive, the opposite is true. Your mind and body need rest. You’re not like a phone where you’re good to the last few percent of the battery. Instead, you get more sluggish as your energy dwindles.

4. Don’t Let Work Take Over

Spending all your time on work won’t make you productive. Instead, you just burn out and miss out on doing everything else you love. You might even grow to resent your passion if you love your career.

Believe it or not, one of the top things successful people do is schedule non-work time. This could mean spending time with family, focusing on a hobby or just binge-watching a favorite show. This downtime gives you time to recharge so you’re more productive while working. Plus, it gives you something to look forward to.

5. Schedule Some Tech-Free Time

Technology is wonderful and terrible. Think about how often you check your phone. How often do you get notifications and feel like you have to look?

The most successful people know this is a time suck and energy waster. Set aside time to go tech-free, or at least mostly tech-free. For instance, set aside one hour to eat dinner without a phone, tablet or computer in sight. You could even schedule a tech-free weekend each month to truly step away.

6. Stop to Eat!

Much like with sleep, you need to eat. Scarfing down your lunch while checking email, responding to texts, going through paperwork or trying to clean the house isn’t healthy.

Successful people take care of themselves. This means taking the time to actually eat a meal in relative peace. It’s a nice break and gives your body time to absorb nutrients without getting heartburn. The stress of eating too fast or skipping meals is terrible for your health. Poor health makes you far less productive.

7. Make Time For Favorite Activities

Finally, have you noticed every successful person has something that they absolutely love to do, besides succeed? They might play golf, go boating or even do crafts.

While you might hear tons of other secret things successful people do, taking the time to do something that energizes you doesn’t often come up. And this isn’t about exercise, unless that’s something that really fires you up.

Find something you truly enjoy that makes you feel excited and energetic. Make time every day or week to energize yourself with this activity. You get to reduce stress, have fun and feel great. This makes you a far more productive person.
