Henry David Thoreau once said, “It is not enough to be busy… The question is: what are we busy about?”

Hmm, what are we actually busy about?

It’s a fair question. For many, what keeps us so busy can sometimes be hard to pinpoint. Days feel full and harried and gone in the blink of an eye. (Sound familiar?)

Even the best-laid plans won’t work well without focus and productivity.

Of course, we’re pretty big advocates of living a well-designed life here at the Day Designer. It’s the very foundation upon which we created a planner that is designed to help you live with intention and purpose. Hopefully, you have done just that: designed a life that aligns with your values, your priorities, and your relationships. We want you to use your Day Designer to design a life you love.

But we want you to actually live it, too.

It’s why we value planning, focus, and productivity so highly, and implement each into the structure of the Day Designer. Because even if you’ve taken the time to design a life you’d love to live, it’s not always easy to . . . well, actually live it. (Funny how “real life” somehow seems to get in the way of the life you want to live, isn’t it?)

And yet, even as planner enthusiasts, “being focused and productive” can seem like yet another to-do; something that we have to structure and practice and plan for—in addition to going grocery shopping, finishing the slides for that presentation, and picking up a present for the birthday party this weekend . . . just to name a few!

We’re focusing on these topics this month, because we believe that focus and productivity should add to your time and add to your life—not take away from either. And we want to give you the best tips and tricks to implement these practices simply and smoothly into your life.

We will share productivity secrets of the ultra successful, how to get more done in less time, and ways to overcome overwhelm (before it takes over your life!), amongst other things. And we will be launching our 2018-2019 Academic Year Edition of our Flagship Daily Planner later this month to help you put it all into practice.

Identifying and planning for the activities and experiences that are most important to you—then focusing, being present, and productively working your way through your planner to get them done—will ensure that you live the life you have intentionally designed. And being more focused and more productive does not mean giving yourself even more to do, we promise. Instead, it means doing more of what you love—like spending quality time with your loved ones, meeting the goals you’ve set yourself, and overcoming overwhelm by getting stuff done.

Being more focused and productive isn’t yet another to-do on the list. When done right, being focused and productive will ensure the right to-dos get done. And you get to do even more with the life you’ve so beautifully designed.
