At Day Designer, our theme for the year is living a well-designed life; a life that you intentionally vision and create through action and experience every single day. That’s why we love and value our Day Designers: By intentionally planning the various activities of our lives, we can see where we’re making space for what’s important . . . and where we’re not.
While most of us will schedule company meetings and soccer practice, grocery shopping and doctor visits, and maybe even a spa day or lunch with friends — very few “planner people” seem to schedule space for stillness; space to be present and find inspiration in our everyday lives.
Can you relate?
It’s understandable, of course. It’s not easy to prioritize “presence.” When you have a million other things on your plate and on your schedule, how do you make space to simply pause?
But presence is integral to living a well-designed life. Presence helps us see what is real, and stops us from ruminating on the past or worrying about the future. It helps us plant a stake squarely in reality: What is true for you right now? Are you living the life you want to live? Are you being the person you want to be?
It’s so easy — especially with a Day Designer — to reflect on our intentions for our lives at the beginning of every year (or even every month or week). But presence is what slows you down enough every day to reflect on whether the various activities on your calendar, the various relationships in your life, and even the various words coming out of your mouth actually reflect the life you’ve designed; the life you want to be living.
And presence also gives you the opportunity to feel inspired by the world around you; to take stock of everything that is true and be inspired by every opportunity to live and experience the best version of your life. The life you designed back in January may be different from the life you would design now. Give yourself that pause of presence to be inspired by what’s around you and let designing your life be an evolutionary process inspired by that.
At Day Designer, we know that planning your days is one surefire way to make sure you’re living the life you really want — but we also want to inspire you to live in the moment and enjoy your beautiful life as it is. We hope you plan for that too.
This month on the blog, we’ll be sharing tips to help you make space for more presence in your life; space to couple inspiration with intention. This is the space that will help you design and live a life beyond your wildest imagination.
“If you want to be happy, do not dwell in the past, do not worry about the future, focus on living fully in the present.”Roy T. Bennett
