We’re tickled to be sharing today’s #welldesignedlife series with the talented Chrissi Shields of Styled Chaos! We love her not only for her impeccable eye for design, but we also admire her pursuit of a life well-designed and fully lived.

Let’s start off with an introduction! Tell us about yourself. Roles you play and what you do.

Hi guys I am Chrissi Shields from Styled Chaos. I founded my baby biz in 2013, as a way to combine my love for a bold, vibrant style with my passion to give complicated life struggles new life. I have become an expert at creating inspired solutions to embrace everyday chaos and executing concepts tailored to the uniqueness of a family. My goal is not to eliminate the daily disorder of a full life—an impossible task, if ever there was one!—but to embrace it; to create a beautiful and bold style that adds a bit of order to the chaos and enhances the authenticity of those living within it. I believe that’s where the true beauty of this one precious lifeexists. I am first and for most a blessed mommy of three sweet kiddos and the enamored wife of a loving husband. I live in Paradise, Texas, where I embrace my very own chaos with style and grace every day.

What accomplishment are you most proud of in life so far?

I would say that my most proud accomplishment is becoming a mother to my “Godson” Jagr at the age of 19, after a tragic car accident crumbled our family.   At the time I did not know that this day would mold me into the strong woman I am today!

Tell us about your big dreams. Where do you want to go, what do you want to do, and why?

Dreams, Oh how I love dreams!

I dream to have a tv or video series, empowering busy families to embrace the chaos of life by transforming not only the their homes but how they live in their homes!

I dream of seeing peoples lives changed!

I dream of finalizing and launching my textile line and to design a fashion line (casual easy wear bright girly dresses)

I also dream of months on Harbor Island, on the beach soaking up the sun! 😉

What are some struggles you’ve faced in achieving your dreams so far? Have you learned anything from them that you want to share?

I would say my biggest struggle to date is being alone in my business. I work best in collaboration, having a bouncing board for big ideas.  Being an entrepreneur is hard alone…you have to do everything from marketing, design, book keeping..you name it, I do it.  I have found that out sourcing aka only working in my strengths has truly blossomed me in my business. Changing things up has freed up much needed time  so I can put my creative energy to work. Getting this time back makes me feel super accomplished and productive at the end of the day.

Do your dreams look different now than they used to? If so, what changed about them?

I would say they have changed a bit, but not too much!  When I first started my business I was lost, I knew I wanted to “change lives creatively” but I wasn’t sure in what directions. I spent a couple of years really digging deep for my niche market and the meaning behind Styled Chaos.

If you could go back and visit yourself at any age, what would you tell your younger self? What kind of encouragement or wisdom do you wish you had at that time?

If I could go back in time… I would tell my self to slow down and stop rushing life.  My younger self was always in a rush to grow up, always ready for that next big step. When in reality you look back and it was the little things that really were the big things.

So, I encourage you no matter what your day may bring to embrace and soak in every last moment…don’t rush life – live for today! Don’t get so focused on the finish line that you forget to enjoy the journey!

What three daily things can you not live without?

  1. Jesus- Alone time reading my Bible!  Faith is what gets me through each day and Salvation  gives my lifepurpose! Without Jesus my day would be nothing, alone time soaking in my forgiveness and his unconditional love aligns my day with what really matters! (#morningswithchrissi)
  1. Have a creative moment solving a problem: whether it be a new design plan for a family or the “AWHA”  moment when the perfect fabric combo comes to life, moments as this truly make my heart sing!
  1. Shared moments with my family! Kisses, snuggles and unforgettable laughs!

What is something you strive to be intentional about?  How do you design it into your life?

I am intentional about…

* “BEING ME” and never apologizing for it!

*Teaching my kids about Jesus and how a relationship with God means more than anything the world can bring!

* My message! To cohesively send the message of who I and my brand truly are!

How do you create balance in your life?

Oh balance! This is a hard one! I create balance by embracing the chaos of life.  I am passionate about moments, giving moments and sharing them!  Staying planned, prepared, and conquering my mindset through out my day keeps me balanced and my life a little less chaotic!

What does your daily routine look like? Is there anything that helps you feel most successful at the end of the day?

A typical day:

6;30 alarm

7:00 work out

7:45 kids to school

8:15 #morningswithchrissi

9-11 emails/marketing

11-3 Client work/projects

3:30 Pick up kiddos

4-6 after school activities (there are many)

6:30-7 Dinner

8: Bath time/ bible study / reading

9 I’m usually passing out with the kids

Weekend typically are spent at the motocross track watching my boys race! (my tiny tot has broken his femur so lately my weekends have been a bit more fancy 😉 )

WOW I’m tired already!

What checklist(s) do you live by?

I try my best to have a 3 month focus list, 1 month and weekly check list,

To make it on my list “IT” has to filter through 3 questions

Will it bring me joy? Will it change a life? Does it better my family and align with my life purpose?

I use my Day Designer, to jot down my day. I usually make my daily to-dos first thing in the am, only because with kiddos my days seem to change as often as they change their undies!

What do you wish you had more of in life? What about it makes it so special?

To be totally honest, I have all I need! Yes, I would like to hold on to time, but I also try my hardest to step out in bold faith and not hold on to this life. Life was given to me, planned moments statically placed by my master maker.  As much as I would like to freeze time I know I can not! So, if I need more of anything I need more of JESUS.. more forgiveness, more giving, more peace, more life, more living, more love, more joy, more faithfulness, more self control, and more Patience.

Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control”

What do you wish you had less of in life?

I wish I had less doubt, I do not worry but I do seem to doubt and second guess myself!

Are you willing to share a story with us about a time in your life when things felt out of control? How did you get back on course?

I would say it would be after I started having kiddos, the first 2 years were hard, chaotic and I was totally focused on being a mommy.  In these years I seemed to have lost who I was and who I was in my marriage! This is very personal but my marriage struggled. Obviously I am still happily married to my high school buff but as I lost focus on my marriage the foundation of our family slowly crumbled and so did my life. Once I came to the harsh reality that I was falling to pieces and out of control (lol) A change of mindset, lots of prayer, communication and surrender got me back on track.  I think Surrender is a great word to explain my “back on track” preference. . I relied/rely on God to work things out instead of forcing the issue and controlling the situation. I let go and let God do the work, realizing that I am not in charge and put my trust in Gods purpose without knowing or understanding the circumstances…and let me say he has always shown up.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him Psalm 37: 7

Do you have a life motto…

Commit to the lord in all you do Psalm 16:3

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3: 5-6

If you could share one thing with our readers, what would it be?

Live for passion not beauty!

LIVE! I MEAN REALLY DESIGN A LIFE YOU WANT AND COMMIT TO THE JOURNEY. Deciding to commit and running towards a life you desire is you making a promise to choose ” a life well lived.” Make your desire a priority and jump in head first and never look back.  We all let different chaos into our lives, we get stuck thinking “living better is not an option. I am here to tell you that allowing overwhelm and busy schedules to  get in your way is only holding you back from living the life you deserve!  Strive to let passion and gratitude move you to action!
