Millions of people each and every weekday follow the same exact routine: Wake up, go to work, come home, watch TV, and go to bed. The problem is—it’s the same thing every single day.
Before long, with a routine like this, it feels like you’re going through the motions. Instead of enjoying life, you’re just existing from day to day. There is a solution to this though—and it’s called adventure!
We’re all naturally curious, so why not add more adventure and let your curiosity lead you to a more exciting life?
Stuck In A Rut
Far too many people feel stuck in a rut. It’s so common that there’s actually a name for it when it goes on for long periods: dysthymia. It’s actually considered a mild cousin of depression, and many people don’t even realize they might have it.
Even if you don’t have dysthymia, you might be experiencing one of the following: low energy, lack of excitement about your days, lack of passion, and dreaming of doing something else but not doing anything about it.
So Many Obstacles
We get it. You just have too much on your plate right now to consider anything resembling more adventure. Maybe you have a toddler and your daily adventure is cleaning up after your sweet little tornado. Or, perhaps you’re spending 10-12 hours a day getting your new business off the ground.
Of course, you can’t forget about feeling exhausted after a long day. The most adventurous thing you can think of is watching two episodes of your favorite show versus just one.
Adding more adventure to our lives isn’t always easy. We can always come up with dozens of reasons why now isn’t a great time.
There’s just one major problem with that—there will never be a great time unless you make the time. Otherwise, something will always be in the way. The good news is that there are ways to make the time and add adventure into your everyday life.
Adventure Is Important
First of all, more adventure doesn’t mean you have to trade in your sweats for rock climbing gear. Instead, adventure is whatever gets you excited and ready to take on the world.
Maybe adventure means finally taking those dance classes you’ve been curious about or taking a trip to a new city. It’s up to you to define what adventure means to you.
When you add more adventure to your life, you start feeling better about yourself. Even those bland days don’t seem so bland anymore. After all, you finally have things to look forward to. You’ll have fun stories to tell. You’ll meet new people and even grow closer to those you love.
The whole idea is to step outside your comfort zone and discover more about yourself and the world around you. You might just find that adventure is just the thing that’s been missing lately.
Embrace Curiosity
No clue where to start? Embrace your natural curiosity. A fulfilled life is one that embraces adventure and curiosity. The two go hand-in-hand. Take a note from Thomas Edison. He was curious about seemingly everything and who isn’t just a little jealous of how much this man did in his life?!
Right now, take a moment to just let your mind wander. What are you curious about? Is there something you want to learn? Something you want to try? Somebody you want to meet?
You don’t have to do anything major, but of course, major is always fun too. Use your curiosity to help you start envisioning life outside of your rut. Let it inspire more adventure. See, right this moment, you’re starting to feel that excitement, right? This is how you could feel regularly.

Perhaps an adventure is taking the dog in the car to a new place and going walking and exploring. Doesn’t have to be far away, close at hand and different is still an adventure. Sadly I do not have that luxury and for me an adventure sometimes means several hours in the car because of the distribution of land ownership around here – mining – steelworks, conservation park and National Park (no dogs allowed in either) the major land owner who are The Defense Force and the Army Play Pen – Arid lands Botanic Gardens (no dogs allowed) and the Mount Remarkable National Park. After that you are into the farming area and definitely no dogs allowed. Not a very dog friendly state is South Australia. I love going out with my dog and although my adventures are limited, they are still out of the house and into the fresh air and sometimes there is something new at the Wetlands, The Foreshore or the Lighthouse. As for my dog, he doesn’t care where we go as long as he and I go together.
Love that you are finding those moments, John! Thanks for sharing with us!
