You’ve said goodbye to 2020 – and although the coming year is still uncertain – many of us are finding ourselves more ready than ever before to embrace the fresh, new year ahead with great hopes of what it could be.
Turning the page to January symbolizes a new beginning and inspires us to do and be our best. As we covered in the first post of this series, our focus this month is on Living With Intention.
We have found that living with intention is the foundational piece of living a well-designed life. Simply put, living your life with intention means living on purpose rather than letting your life live you.
We encourage you to take a few minutes today to sum up your hopes and dreams for 2021 into one meaningful word. Yes, one word. Something that you want to keep at the forefront of your mind as you go about each day.
On the cover page of your Day Designer Flagship Planner, you’ll see a prompt for your Word For The Year. There’s a reason for it being there and today we’re focusing on just that!
Why You’ll Love Having A Word For The Year
✨ Choosing a single word based on your personal aspirations and intentions will guide what you focus on and embrace in the coming year.
✨ This one word can provide the “why” to your goals and help you live more mindfully each day.

Fearless Joy
I’m struggling a bit with distinguishing between goals and plans on the pages with the 3-12 month breakouts. Do you have any prototypes you could share?
Hi Debra, Thanks for writing in with your question! If you’re referring to the page in our Flagship Planners entitled “My Goals: What Is Important To Me?” – the breakdown of multiple rows is a way to allow for evolving goals throughout the year. You actually have a few options…
1. You can fill out the entire page now if you would like by progressing your goals throughout the year, such as “Run 2 miles twice per week” in the 1st quarter of the year, and “Run a 5K” in the 2nd quarter, and so on.
2. You could just fill in your goals for the 1st quarter now and then fill in your goals for the 2nd quarter before the start of April, and so on.
3. If you’re more of a “set your goals for the entire year” person, then you could simply cross out the months that are broken down in the far left column – and list your goals throughout each column. I chose FAITH as my word. My husband is awaiting a medical diagnosis for a potentially incurable illness. We are both scared, but determined to make the best of things and live in FAITH that all will be well, no matter what.
Shannon, I am in that same boat with you. Our 22 year old son had a recurrent brain tumor diagnosed back in June. Surgery and a second round of radiation went very well. But now his most recent MRI showed a spot. We are currently awaiting a clear answer – more tumor or dead tissue from the radiation. Faith is going to play a big role in our family this year too. May God bless you and your husband this year with His peace that passes understanding.
Carol, Thank you so much for reaching out to Shannon here on our post. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as well. ❤️
Shannon, Thank you for sharing your word with us. It sounds like you chose the perfect word for your year. We will hope and pray for good results. Our thoughts are with you! ❤️

Thanks for sharing!
“Believe “because I want to believe that we will overcome the pandemic, I believe that anything is possible and I believe in myself
Yes – love all three reasons that your word relates to!
Commitment, as in commitment to finish what I start.
Such a good one!
My word for 2021 is GROUND.
It is the 14th century word for where God connects to man. It is not just a spiritual connection, but also a creative and human connection.
In the word ground is a belief in what can happen when we seek to achieve the impossible or what we believe to be impossible within ourselves.
The unspoken content of the word exists to dream, think, create, believe and do, knowing all the while that within us, we have the ability to be even more than just one word can describe.
In the word ground there is a foundation to plant all things possible and to grow.❤️
Leila, We love that your word for the year represents so many things. You are a beautiful writer!

Love this one!
Heart
This year I choose to focus many of my decisions with my heart at the forefront. We often neglect our hearts for what should/needs to be done. After this rollercoaster year of 2020, I’m flipping my priorities to give my heart every it needs to flourish.
Dareen, We love that your word reminds you of what to focus on as you make choices throughout your year. ❤️
Sometimes, as for this year, I use a short poem or quote which uses my word of the year or sums up the ethos of my word of the year. The words this year are serendipity and coincidence. Serendipity is to remind me to be thankful for unexpected good things and grump around far less. xxxx
Love this, Jane!
